Welcome to the Battle Ground Cultural Task Force!
On October 6, 2008 the Battle Ground City Council
adopted the following Resolution at the request
of the Battle Ground Cultural Task Force and many residents.
RESOLUTION NO. 08 -11
A RESOLUTION RELATING TO BATTLE GROUND AS A WELCOMING
COMMUNITY WHERE EVERYONE FEELS VALUED, ACCEPTED,
RESPECTED AND SAFE.
WHEREAS: Like many other similar cities in the country, Battle
Ground is growing.
With growth comes increasing diversity in the residents and visitors to our
city. While these
changes add richness and depth to the city they also may create new tension and
discomfort and
may bring to the surface old issues-all a normal part of the evolution of any
community.
WHEREAS: While there have been instances in which these tensions
have flared in our
community, what is important is that we come together to make our community a
welcoming
place that does not tolerate the oppression, harassment or bullying of anyone.
WHEREAS: The majority of residents wants the City of Battle Ground
to be a
welcoming community where everyone feels valued, accepted, respected and safe;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED By the City Council of the City of Battle Ground,
Washington,
that it:
1) Accepts its responsibility to foster a strong diverse
community connected by its
shared commitment to mutual respect, understanding and dignity for all; and
2) Is committed to protecting the civil and human rights of
all citizens;
3) Challenges and encourages all residents and visitors to
act at all times in ways
consistent with the values of equality, justice, civility and fairness in our
personal
and family lives; in our neighborhoods, where we work, play and worship; in
schools; and in our civic lives through clubs, associations and other
institutions; and
4) Urges those who feel they have been victims or witnesses
of harassment,
intimidation or discrimination, to report such incidents to the appropriate
enforcement agency(ies).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT The City Council of the City of Battle
Ground
supports the work of the volunteer Battle Ground Cultural Task Force to promote
increased
awareness, understanding and appreciation of diversity in all its forms.
ADOPTED AT THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BATTLE GROUND, WASHINGTON, THIS 6th DAY OF OCTOBER 2008.
Approved: CITY OF BATTLE GROUND, WASHINGTON
